If you know an inmate at the Collier County Jail you might be wondering what life the jail is really like. Interviews from ex-inmates sheds light on visiting the jail, making phone calls, getting along with other inmates and more.

Location of the County Jail
Collier County Jail is in southwest Florida, near the coast (Gulf of Mexico). It is located in Naples. Collier County has just over 300,000 residents, but land-wise it is the second largest county in Florida.

History of the county
In the early 1900's an advertising executive from New York City, Barron Collier, started vacationing in sunny southwest Florida. He finally moved to the area and donated a lot of money to the state in exchange for "favorable consideration" to have a county named after him. His gambit worked and here we are almost a hundred years later.

What he probably didn't think about back in those days was the location and name of the county jail. The jail is located on the Tamiami Trail which he helped fund and the jail is inadvertently named after him.
