Interview with Todd

JM: How long was your sentencing for?
Todd: 13 days in jail after I surrendered to the bench warrant and I was given 6 months suspended sentence and 50 hours of community service.

JM: Did you spend time in a holding cell after your sentencing? If so, what was that like? If you didn't where did they they take you instead?
Todd: Yes I did. It was very pleasant. We sat there for a couple of hours in the police cell then they took us to the holding cells with bunks and thin mattresses. We were kept there overnight and the next day they took me over to county.

Indian River is one of the 100 wealthiest counties in the US and the 6'th richest county in Florida. That doesn't mean that there is no crime, though.

At any given time the Indian River County Jail is home to a variety of criminals ranging from petty thieves to those convicted of much more serious offenses (they are usually waiting for trial and will end up in prison).

It is rare for a person to spend more than a year in county jail and Indian River is no exception. Go ahead and browse the links on the left to learn more about what you can expect if you or somebody you know is headed to the Indian River Jail.

Understanding what really goes on inside jail is comforting for some people who have a loved one behind bars - jail is not prison and a lot of the dramatized elements of jail that you see on TV are completely made up.
