Westchester County Jail
Westchester County Jail is located in Valhalla, New York. There are approximately 3500 counties in the United States, usually each with its own county jail. Every county jail has its own set of rules, and Westchester County Jail is no different. For instance, many jails do not allow families and friends of inmates to send packages to the jail, however, Westchester County Jail does allow it, provided you abide by a strict set of rules, including not sending contraband. (If you do, you will be prosecuted.)

Jail Experience
Each jail is unique, and the experiences of inmates that go there differ as well. We have interviewed former Westchester County Jail inmates, however, so you can get a glimpse into what jail life really is like. This can help you know what to expect before you go to jail. It's best to be as prepared as possible so you can understand and cope with the changes once you're inside. If you have a friend or loved one inside jail, you can better understand what they might be going through while they're incarcerated. No one wants to go to jail, but being prepared can help make the transition a bit easier if you are headed on an extended vacation, courtesy of Westchester County.

Food, Commissary, and Life Behind Bars
Westchester County Jail provides many opportunities for family members to help out their loved ones. You can send packages to the jail, or you can order commissary for the inmate. Most people agree that jail food is not the most appetizing, so many inmates live for commissary. For those of you unititiated as to what commissary is, it's food and/or supplies that inmates or family members can order that can be comforting inside jail. It can include snacks, toilitries, and more.

Our interviewees talk about the meals, commissary, and what life is like inside the jail. Feel free to browse the site to learn more about what you can expect inside Westchester County Jail.
