Medications

Interview with Tom and Barbara

JM: Did you always have access to necessary medications?
Tom: Yes this facility is very well equipped medically and are always very quick to respond to all medical needs.
Barbara: No. Medications were not always given when you were supposed to get them. It took almost 2 weeks after entering jail to get my medication I had been taken when I lived in my home

JM: How did you get your medications?
Tom: Hand delivered by staff.
Barbara: Usually a nurse would come to each inmates cell to give them their meds. Sometimes, the nurses would be behind a door and the inmates would line up to get their meds

JM: What types of punishments were incurred for abuse of drugs? Did you ever witness this?
Tom: Loss of good time, criminal prosecution, administrative segregation and loss of all privileges such as visits phone commissary. They are pretty strict and if it is an illegal drug you will be charged in court.
Barbara: people being caught selling their pills or "cheeking" them were written up and sent to ad seg. Witnessed 7-10 people get caught every month
