Meals

Interview with Scott, Carrie, John and Sophie

JM: How many meals did you get per day?
Scott: you get two hot meals and a sack lunch
Carrie: two. A mega meal which was breakfast and lunch combined, served at 4am. And dinner served at 3pm
John: food = YUCK! I remember being fed at 5 am 11am and 3pm was dinner I was not really hungry at first but later depened on candy and top rammen to fill the gaps. I hate top rammen to this day for that
Sophie: breakfast and lunch were given in the morning in a bag... usually cereal, milk, oranges, boloney sandwich, drink mix dinner was "hot" (meaning maybe at some point it was hot but was cold by the time it was served)

JM: How would you rate the food? Please give details of why.
Scott: poor the sack lunchs ate the best meal
Carrie: The food was terrible and very fattening. a lot of soy products, a lot of cheese, a lot of rice, and pasta. Filler foods. And bologna sandwiches every single day. However, if you had money you could order food from commissary. But even then it was still fatty foods.. candy, sweets, coffee
John: the food was bland and did not have much selection. I remember breakfast was milk cereal a bannana or apple.luch was mystery meat peatnut butter and jelly or cheese sandwich juice fruit and cookie dinner was something hot juice fruit and cookie best food i remember was one the last nights they had a strange pasta with chicken that the guys told me to ad a rammen flavor pack to nake it taste better. I did and it was really good
Sophie: not good at all... only ate the milk, cereal, orange, and cornbread (if they served it) or white rice if they served it... was on a diabetic diet which they seem to think meant don't season any of the food... very blan food that wasn't hot... same food given every day

JM: Did you have any favorite/least favorite meals?
Scott: yes the biscuts
Carrie: None of it was very good. They had a stew that was alright, and I loved the cookies. Some of the girls loved the food. I wasn't one of them.
John: best food i remember was one the last nights they had a strange pasta with chicken that the guys told me to ad a rammen flavor pack to nake it taste better. I did and it was really good worst food was rammen I hate rammen to this day
Sophie: on Thanksgiving we were served turkey lunch meat with gravy and mashed potatoes... probably the best meal they had... really hated the mystery ground "meat" meals as I do not eat anything ground

JM: Were there any other snacks offered outside of meals? What was commissary like and how expensive was it?
Scott: no only the three meals
Carrie: Yes Commissary was offered. we ordered on Sunday and received it on Tuesday. Things were very expensive a cup of soup was $1.25 where at the grocery store it only cost .20 cents. That was one of the most expensive things.
John: they had candy soda ramen powdered drinks sugar hot sauce and other condiments that were regularly traded for other things I only got rammen candy and soda everything was decently priced for the times I remember soda was 50 cents a can snickers for 3 for a dollar and ramen was 5 for a dollar.
Sophie: commissary had a lot of candy and junk food, some soups... nothing "healty". Orders were placed on sunday night and delivered on thursday (if you had money on your books or if someone sent you a "package")
