Meals

Interview with Tyrone

JM: How many meals did you get per day?
Tyrone: 3 A breakfast, where a bag lunch was also given, and the a supper.

JM: How would you rate the food? Please give details of why.
Tyrone: In a word, it was disgusting. I understood that the budget for feeding criminals was probably not that high, but again, eating cold, rubber- like imitation scrambled eggs or cold oatmeal is not my idea of good food. The apples provided at lunch were routinely one day away from spoilage, and the dinners were very starchy.

JM: Did you have any favorite/least favorite meals?
Tyrone: I actually disliked every single meal they provided. I had to purchase things through the commissary to make them more edible, like hot sauce. The coffee provided was disgusting, so again, was mainly purchased through the commissary.

JM: Were there any other snacks offered outside of meals? What was commissary like and how expensive was it?
Tyrone: No, snacks were never provided, (remember that I was there through Thanksgiving and Christmas). Anything other than the food provided from the facility had to be purchased through the commissary. The commissary was very adequate, with a fairly large selection to choose from of snacks, soups, toiletries and even clothing. All- in-all, the pricing was very reasonable.
