Inmates

Interview with Clayton

JM: Did you find it difficult to get along with other inmates? Please give examples to explain why you did or didn't.
Clayton: I got along very well with others. I am easy going and fun to be around. Most of the time id be writing up pleading documents or letters for my fellow inmates. I was really good with helping them meet the requirements for county parole. I helped get people the hell out of jail. Id trade my help for commissary.

JM: What types of things did you have to do to avoid problems or fights with other inmates?
Clayton: Stick with your race. i.e. Whites (Woods) Blacks, Picas, Northerners. Be respectful. I never had a problem with anyone however most issues that would cause a fight or roll-up is stealing, and new arrivals paperwork. Inmates from your own race check your paperwork to see your charges and make sure your not there because of a sex crime or abuse. etc.

JM: Were you able to choose an inmate as your cellmate if you knew one? How often would your cellmate(s) change?
Clayton: I was placed in a Dorm situation. The Dorm was overfilled filled with inmates most of the time. It gets bad... Even to the point to where new arrivals wouldn't get a mattress because there weren't enough.
