Inmates

Interview with nelson and Amy

JM: Did you find it difficult to get along with other inmates? Please give examples to explain why you did or didn't.
nelson: no, they were like brothers.
Amy: No I got along with most of the women in there because that is my nature to get along. Some people you just stay away from because that's the way they feel comfortable doing their time and I respected that. I got all the rift raft for cell mates because the deputies knew I would be nice and try and help out someone new. I did not witness a single fight in 5 months.

JM: What types of things did you have to do to avoid problems or fights with other inmates?
nelson: same things on the outside. respect, friendly attitude.
Amy: Respect where others may be coming from and get that although they may seem stupid or uneducated that is what they come from and they are the same as myself trying to get through a very lonely hard time in their life and pay their dues to society so they can move forward.

JM: Were you able to choose an inmate as your cellmate if you knew one? How often would your cellmate(s) change?
Amy: I could and did a few times but mostly the deputies wanted me to have the otherwise problem women as my cell mate because I was not problematic what so ever. They changed frequently at least otwice a month and after I became a pod worker I had another worker as a cell mate for the last 6 weeks.
