Pre-sentencing

Interview with Calvin

JM: Tell us about the pre-sentencing process:
Calvin: I went to jail in Monetery County. They offered me five years because I was on parole. I had a public defender and then highered an attorney who couldn't do any more than the PD could do so that was a waste of money.

JM: Did you have police stop by your house for questioning? If not please give us details on how you came to be arrested.
Calvin: I got pulled over and was high on meth. When the walked up to the car and I punched the gas and took them on a high speed chase for three miles. I got out on foot and they shot me with a taser but missed so I got away. The next day, they caught me coming back to my house to get some stuff.

JM: What was court like? Please give as many details as you recall.
Calvin: I was hoping to get prop 36 to get into a program but they wanted to send me back to prison. I really didn't have any opportuniy so I basically just plead out.

JM: What were your original charges? What did you end up being convicted of?
Calvin: The original charge was resisting arrest, possesion of meth, and evading the police. That got dropped down to just the possesion and evading the police which turned out to be two felony charges.
