Closing Advice

Interview with Tim, Bob, Peter, Iris, Pat, Elsie, Kathleen, George and Amber

JM: What else would you want a friend or family member to know if they have a loved one going to this jail?
Tim: Cooperate with the police fully and you'll get out in no time.
Bob: You do not want to be in there without money on your books. The only way to get more than 3 small crappy meals a day and decent toiletries is to order from commissary...impossible without $$$. Try to apply to become a Trustee (inmate worker) you have to work but time goes by faster, the inmates are more chill, you eat real food(same as in the deputies cafeteria because you prepare it), a big screen TV with dvd player, pool table, no lockdowns, a change of clothes everyday,etc,etc,etc....just do it you will thank me.
Peter: just to know. that the loved ones should visit an inmate. communicate on the phone if possible if you can see them in person. and just hope the inmate of the loved ones stay safe.
Iris: That to support them and don't forget about them because their thinking about you none stop. Every letter and every phone call is important so make it worth while for them.
Pat: Please be there to support them even if they have done something wrong, you are all they have on this earth. You do not need to financially support them but moral support is big while incarcerated.
Elsie: Write them as frequently as possible. Putting money in their account would make an enormous difference because of lingering hunger and desire for anything real. Phone calls were a blessing as were visits. Any human contact.
Kathleen: saev yer money on the lawyer unless there is a ser5ious unjustice and your financially able. everyone in jail always appreciates knowing people arer thinking of them on the outside. not only money and phone time but leters and emails matter more than possible known
George: To stay positive and as long as their loved ones behave they should be home soon, also to become familiar with website to be able to email inmate for communication it really helps to get emails everyday and know someone is still thinking about you and waiting for your return.
Amber: MAKE SURE THEY PUT MONEY ON THEIR BOOKS WEEKLY BECAUSE YOU GET HUNGRY AND YOU NEED SHAMPOO AND DEODORANT. MAIL IS ALWAYS NICE TO GET BECAUSE IT KEEPS YOU CONNECTED TO THE OUTSIDILITYE WORLD AND IT MAKES YOU FEEL LOVED

JM: If somebody knows they will be serving time in this jail what is your advice to them?
Tim: Try not to commit any more crimes to be sent back to jail.
Bob: Use the time don't let it use you. It sucks being in there but not many people get the opportunity to be taken away from the distractions of modern life to focus on reflection, planning, studying. You have to be there so make the most of it. and above all keep your head up and dont get down on yourself it may be a long time but its not forever
Peter: if you do the crime, you will do the time. its not worth doing the crime. try to stay away from jail as much as you can. its just not worth the trouble.
Iris: Stay to yourself and worry about yourself. Dint get caught up in the drama its not going to get you home any quicker. Hopefully you learn you lesson and don't end up back there.
Pat: Get involved in things to keep yourself busy. they have classes that you can take to keep yourself busy, you can even get your GED while you are in jail. Write to family, draw, read, do anything that will take your mind off where you actually are. and stay away from trouble makers all they will do is extend your stay in jail.
Elsie: Absolutely don't use drugs while there and get the most aggressive attorney to go to bat for you to minimize your sentence and threaten the jail if you don't get your medication or medical attention. Get into the working dorm as soon as possible because it's regulated and generally has better inmates.
Kathleen: the time spent incarcerated no matter how long remember its only temporary. and more than likely in one eway or another there was fault on your end,. focusing on the positive and what not to do next time. its a time for reflection on the choices made and an opportunity for personal growth.
George: My advice is the same, keep thinking positively and make the right decisions to stay out of trouble, keep your mind focused and it will be over soon, and hopefully keep out of trouble.
Amber: I WOULD SAY TO MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS TRY TO SIGN UP FOR ANY CLASSES THEY CAN, SIGN UP FOR TRUSTEE BECAUSE WORKING KEEPS YOU BUSY AND IF YOUR BUSY YOUR TIME GOES BY FASTER

JM: Please list any other jail or rehab facilities you have been to.
Peter: none.
Iris: None
Pat: George Bailey Detention Facility, Facility 8, East Mesa Detention Facility
Elsie: Las Colinas Detention Facility, Vista Jail and four prisons, all while innocent. Many of your questions weren't relative or appropriate somehow. I'd be willing to expand on this another time. I do reform work.
Kathleen: no other
George: I have also been to San Diego Central Jail
Amber: I HAVE ALSO BEEN IN THE VISTA DETENTION FACILITY AND SERENITY HOUSE REHAB
