Telephones

Interview with Brittany and Jordan

JM: Did you have regular access to telephones?
Brittany: We did have access to payphones. When I was on unit 1, they let us out of our cells from 8am-11pm and we were free to walk around the unit, the yard all day. During this time we could also use the phones. The only times they locked us down was when there was a fight.
Jordan: yes although it was crowded since public

JM: What types of charges applied for calling people? How much money would you guess the average inmate spends per week on phone calls?
Brittany: Calls were collect, and I didn't make any.
Jordan: It was more expensive than it should have been like one dollar a minute . They spend maybe 30 a week on it

JM: Did you need to buy phone cards to call out?
Brittany: In the honor farm portion of the jail, calling cards could be bought but they aren't available in other areas of the jail.
Jordan: Yes I did have to to di it

JM: Did the jail screen your calls?
Brittany: I have heard they record the calls but I don't have any personal experience with this.
Jordan: Yeah that was policy I guess
