Pre-sentencing

Interview with Rick

JM: Tell us about the pre-sentencing process:
Rick: Arrested and went right to jail. I was a 5 time loser so the bail they set was way out of my reach. They were expecting to strike me out from a charge in Washingtong but my lawyer wouldn't let that happen.

JM: Did you have police stop by your house for questioning? If not please give us details on how you came to be arrested.
Rick: I was in a hit and run and escaped the scene on foot. They towed my car. Two days later they called up and said they wanted to return my truck and like a big mouth bass I took the hook. I went down there and CHP turned over my truck. Three weeks later I beat up somebody real bad. They called the police and they showed up and arrested me for that.

JM: What was court like? Please give as many details as you recall.
Rick: I was remanded into custody. Because I had multiple felonies I had 500K bail. No way I could swing that.

JM: What were your original charges? What did you end up being convicted of?
Rick: I was facing 4 felony. Assault and Battery, assault and battery to do bodily harm, felony hit and run, and because the guy I hit allegedly broke his finger they considered my truck a deadly weapon so I got an enhanced felony charge for that. I was convicted of the assault and hit and run. The other got plead down to a misdemeanor.
