Interview with John

JM: How many different blocks were there?
John: I believe that I was in the South Wing , (with the West Wing holding the more violent criminals and trusties/those with jail jobs in larger quarters on a higher floor . There was a hospital wing I was in my first 23 hrs or so , as I said . I comment on my wing's blocks below .

JM: Did they have names? If so, what were they?
John: Officially , I think my block was General Population , I recall the sign on my block's door saying that and " Minimum - Medium - Maximum " but I recall hearing that overcrowding was " making " it that , that it was really meant to be minor/non-violent criminals , basically , anyway . There was another General Population block I unsure of the " difference " of I guess , another block that appeared to be more for cons who were gang-oriented there were as many as two female-oriented blocks in our wing (not always occupied) , I know there was a Psyciatric. wing somewhere but I am unsure whether it was in our South .

JM: Which types of inmates were housed in the different blocks?
John: I answered that above , but our General/non-volent wing , which had two levels , had " sronger charges " cons on the upper level hosed I believe in actual cells sleeping 2-3? I guess they could get out of them themselves - I was in dorm/barracks bunks/mattresses on the ground as I said? with 6? three-stacked bunks there at the weekends the block filled up with DUI/domestic violence cases who would generally get bailed out/OR'd when the new week came , the population on my floor would maybe low at 17-19 and peak at 25-28?? Something like that . People from he lower floors wre , clearly , never to go up to the higher level . Those there would go down to the main floor (and the yard outside , open about 14 of the 24 hours , I forgot to mention that) readily . Sometimes a higher-level person might get housed on the barracks floor or , I guess , even for non-penalty reasons temporarily in the isolation/punishment cells that were at the back of the barracks/dorm if space required , those cells were generally , however , housed by being-punished cons from other blocks .

JM: What do you remember being the nicest and worst parts about the different blocks?
John: Basically only in the one block all my time there , as I have said .
