JM: Did you get off early based on good behavior? Tom: All jails and prison have some system of earning
good behavior credits unless you are a lifer or
serving a mandatory minimum like with the strike
law. Myself I got about a year off of my sentence
for good behavior credits earned. Frank: Yes I did. Served 8 out of 12 months. Ashlee: No. I don't think that is a reward in jail. But
the only time you get compensated for days is if
you work in the jail. You could work in the
kitchen of laundry room, and then you would get
a 3 day kick. Which is you would get out 3 days
early.
JM: What is the most time off you can receive for good behavior? Tom: In Sutter County it would be for every 2 days
served you can get one day off. If you were to
get a year in the county you can get out in as
soon as 8 months. Sutter County also has a
program where you are able to buy some days off of
your sentence for certain types of offenses. I
had never seen this before. Borders on bribery to
me but..... Frank: The laws were changing right when I went in. Now
it is 1 day off for every 1 day served. (1/2
time). Though when I went I received 3/4 time. Ashlee: None. I mean seriously if you look at the
situation, you are bad so you go to jail and now
that you are in you want to be good to get out.
But the officers know who are the good inmates
from the trouble ones or brown nose ones.
Inmates knew I am not jail material.
JM: What types of actions do you need to avoid in order to get time off? Did you ever witness somebody losing time off for good behavior? Tom: No write ups and the ability to get along with all
the cops. There is a write up waiting for you for
almost anything you can think of so you would just
have to be real careful in all that you do as well
as get along with the cops. If the cops take a
disliking to you there are gonna be really rough
days ahead. Frank: Pretty much don't do anymore crimes and follow the
little handbook you get when you are booked in,
and you will get good time. Don't be a jerk to
cops. I witnessed a couple people who got 3 extra
days for getting caught smoking, but that still
isn't too bad in the long run. Ashlee: No such thing at this jail. I have never heard
of any inmate getting time off for good
behavior. You have no choice but to be good
otherwise they can extend your time longer.
