Sentencing

Interview with Lena, Janis, Anna and Malcolm

JM: How long was your sentencing for?
Lena: Just ten days.
Janis: 16 months, I spent a good number of months in the county jail before being transferred.
Anna: My sentencing was 270 days in county jail.
Malcolm: my sentening was for 180 days and 24 monthes probation

JM: Did you spend time in a holding cell after your sentencing? If so, what was that like? If you didn't where did they they take you instead?
Lena: Went from booking, to my cell, to the video court thing and right back to my cell.
Janis: Yes I did. Reality sets in that hey, I'm not going home today and I thought about what I would have to deal with when I got back to the unit and I thought about the time I would be away from my son. It was disheartening in the least.
Anna: Yes. I must of been in there for hours. I was completely by myself at one point. It sucked being in a little room all by myself. All I did was think about why I did this to myself. Other inmates eventually were put in my holding cell. Everybody would just talk about there sentencing. I just stayed quiet. I didn't want to associate with anybody. Was a really low part of my life.
Malcolm: i spent about 4 hours in a court holding cell before transported back to west valley detention center.. A was feed spoild peanut buttter sanwiches while still remaining with ankle cuffs on.
