Good Behavior

Interview with Ralph, Rachel, Fred, Craig and Joe

JM: Did you get off early based on good behavior?
Ralph: yes i did
Rachel: Yes, I believe i ended up serving 19 days.
Fred: yes i did actually that along with going to the classes they have to offer
Craig: Nope. I sure didn't. I got robbed of 6 months pre-sentence confinement credit time. Even had a case going pro-se in the Court of Appeals. My P.O. had been STEALING MY UNITED STATES LEGAL MAIL. That also was part of the reason for my revocation.
Joe: Yes I did. In Denver County but not through the state you will do 60% of your sentence. You can also earn up to 12 more days off your sentence through various jobs and programs at the jail. The county jail may offer more days off your sentence but I was never able to make this clear.

JM: What is the most time off you can receive for good behavior?
Ralph: i was able to do have of 150
Rachel: I cant remember, but it's pretty close to half your time.
Fred: it would vary between counties, i believe it could kknock off around 30 to 60 days off, depends on how long the sentence is.
Craig: I have no idea. Whatever they decide they want you to have, from my experience.
Joe: In my experience and others that I witnessed I don't believe you can do less than 50% of your sentence.

JM: What types of actions do you need to avoid in order to get time off? Did you ever witness somebody losing time off for good behavior?
Ralph: take the classes that are offered and do not get in trouble
Rachel: Fighting, anything illegal, i guess its pretty much common sense. Anything that would get you I trouble or go agai at the rules.
Fred: well you would have to stay away from the people who dont follow the rules and just follow the rules, those who break the rules have p good time taken and put in the hole.
Craig: Basically, just be humble. don't stray to far from the 1950's negro-behavior pattern that white America found acceptable, and maybe then you can disappear in a crowd. Or, be their "dog".
Joe: I was in the 5C pod, which is the lowest security and and because it is a working pod you are able to get away with more. Do not act retarded, do not steal, don not have drugs, and do not get caught with contraband. I witnessed one guy who was reclassified to a felony pod during his sentence. When he went into that pod he had been working the graffiti crew which gives an extra 3 days off your sentence, he lost that job. He was ten wearing contraband clothes and was sent to the hole where he lost any time off he had accumulated.
