Inmates

Interview with Rosa

JM: Did you find it difficult to get along with other inmates? Please give examples to explain why you did or didn't.
Rosa: No it wasn't hard to get along with any inmates. Just tried to make the best of it because I knew I was only there a short time. Yes people were difficult but I tried to just put it out of mind.

JM: What types of things did you have to do to avoid problems or fights with other inmates?
Rosa: Just be easy going. People are just looking to provoke anyone they can. Get a radio or a Tv and just keep to yourself. But don't be a pushover at times you do have to stand up for yourself and not let them walk all over you. I feel it's harder to get along with the co's than the inmates.

JM: Were you able to choose an inmate as your cellmate if you knew one? How often would your cellmate(s) change?
Rosa: No we couldn't pick our cellmates unfortunately. Cell mates changed daily depending on when your cell mate was being released, but same day one left you got a new one.
