JM: Did you have regular access to telephones?
Louisa: Yes.
JM: What types of charges applied for calling people? How much money would you guess the average inmate spends per week on phone calls?
Louisa: Collect calls. My family had to have credit on
their phone in order for me to call. They had
to prepay. $3.75 for 15 minutes. You could buy
a calling card for $20, which was good for 5
phone calls at 15 minutes each.
JM: Did you need to buy phone cards to call out?
Louisa: No.
JM: Did the jail screen your calls?
Louisa: Yes they did.
