Leisure Time

Interview with Ron, mike and Brian

JM: What types of facilities were available to help pass the time?
Ron: THERE WAS A TOILET IN THE CORNER!! AND THERE WAS A ROPE HANGING FROM THE CEILING! I WAS NOT ALL THAT SURE WHAT THE ROPE WAS FOR!!! THERE WAS ALSO WINDOWS WHICH A PERSON COULD HANG FROM ALSO FOR EXCERCISE!!!
mike: Only the rec. yard and it was just a platform with nothing to do.
Brian: They had recreation every couple days. This was considered a privilege, meaning if the CO's decided 1 inmates behavior was too bad...they could take rec away for everybody. They also had weekly church services, and they also held g.e.d. courses, if an inmate wanted to better himself/herself while being incarcerated.

JM: Did you have regular access to the entertainment or was competition fierce? Give details.
Ron: NO
mike: The only entertainment we had was cards and books.
Brian: The only real entertainment I had was my phone calls, and reading books. Books were traded and distributed every couple weeks. To be honest the drama that inmates cause in jail was plenty of entertainment. There were also inmates who received magazines in the mail, so it was also good to have that connection from the outside.

JM: Did you have a hard time staying in shape while in jail?
Ron: NO I WAS NOT THERE FOR LONG ENOUGH TO EVEN THINK ABOUT EXERCISE!!!D.
mike: No, i did push ups and curls regularly.
Brian: The diet is much different in jail. Everything was healthy and low or correct in calories. I actually lost weight while in jail, and was quite proud of it.

JM: How often did you get to go outside? What did you do outside if you were allowed to? If you were not allowed to go outside what could you do for exercise?
Ron: NOT AT ALL, THEY SEEMED QUITE AMUSED BY HOLDING US INSIDE OF THEIR STINK!!!
mike: 1-2 times a week
Brian: I personally didn't go outside much at all. But there were things you could do while in jail. You could walk laps around the perimeter or even do push up and sit ups.

JM: Did the jail offer church services? If so, what were they like and when were they held?
Ron: YES AS A MATTER OF FACT THEY DID OFFER PROTECTION FROM THE COPS THAT SELL DRUGS!
mike: saterday nights it was a good chuch service.
Brian: Yes, the jail offered church services. I didn't attend any of the services. I have my own relationship with God in which i prayed and read the Bible.
