Telephones

Interview with Cameron

JM: Did you have regular access to telephones?
Cameron: They had 5 phones and turned them off whenever were are doing stuff like having meals or at night. If some guys didn't follow the rules they would turn them off too. Like if they don't clean up they would turn off the phones.

JM: What types of charges applied for calling people? How much money would you guess the average inmate spends per week on phone calls?
Cameron: I don't really remember. They had this thing called Paytell and you had to set up an account with that to make a call. It was kinda complicated.

JM: Did you need to buy phone cards to call out?
Cameron: No, just setting up that account but you had to do that on the outside.

JM: Did the jail screen your calls?
Cameron: Yeah, they had a sticker on the phone that said all calls will be monitored.
