Good Behavior

Interview with Aaron, Jessica, Walter, Margaret and Sherry

JM: Did you get off early based on good behavior?
Aaron: No, but I was also never given a hard time by the deputies because I talked to them like they were regular people. This made my time go by faster and smoother.
Jessica: I had a short sentence, so there was no getting out early.
Walter: In Hillsborough County you get something like 20% off your sentence automatically(5 months on 6 months) and can get extra good time by working as a trustee(6 work days equal one day off your sentence)
Margaret: THEY WOULD GIVE YOU UP TO 5 DAYS FOR EVERY MONTH YOU DID
Sherry: No, the only way is to work you time off.

JM: What is the most time off you can receive for good behavior?
Aaron: I'm not sure what the max is.
Walter: as many days as you can gain by working
Margaret: YOU COULD GET 5 OR 6 DAYS
Sherry: I'll say 6 days a month.

JM: What types of actions do you need to avoid in order to get time off? Did you ever witness somebody losing time off for good behavior?
Aaron: Fighting or keeping food from meals in your cell. Also stealing food from the kitchen if you worked in it could add time to your stay.
Walter: The only time I ever heard of anyway doing time day for day is at the judge's order. Gain time for working can be taken away if you get fired for any reason, be it stealing, or fighting, or being disrespectful to the deputy. The gain time to be taken away is up to the sargeant who conducts the Inmate disciplinary Hearing(IDH)
Margaret: YOU COULDN'T FIGHT, STEAL, DONT MISS DOING YOUR CHORE, NOT ATTENDING PROGRAMS, LYING, TALKING IN THE BUNK AREA, NOY BEING CLEAN, AND TALKING BACK TO A GUARD WERE ALL REASONS TO LOSE YOUR GOOD BEHAVIOR TIME
Sherry: Not to get into an altercation with someone or the guard, or get caught with contraband in you cell, or you loose your trustee position.
