Inmates

Interview with Sonia

JM: Did you find it difficult to get along with other inmates? Please give examples to explain why you did or didn't.
Sonia: Yes at times I did. There was little to do so one of the main past times was gossiping and there were inmates in my cell who were very manipulative and would sometimes tell the officers things to get others in trouble and over all make a bad situation an even worse situation

JM: What types of things did you have to do to avoid problems or fights with other inmates?
Sonia: I read alot and stayed in my cell. I didnt mingle very much. I did play cards quite a bit but just mainly tried to keep my thoughts and my bussiness as private as possible. I also stood my ground when I felt that it was neccessary to show that I was capable of defending myself

JM: Were you able to choose an inmate as your cellmate if you knew one? How often would your cellmate(s) change?
Sonia: No I wasnt able to choose who was my cellmate and usually there were new people in and out pretty often at least a change once a month if not more
