Leisure Time

Interview with Rex

JM: What types of facilities were available to help pass the time?
Rex: Theres not much to do to pass the time, you can take GED classes, drug and alcohol classes or try to get in a program but mostly you read, play cards, try to watch tv or talk on the phone. The days are very, very long and time creeps by.

JM: Did you have regular access to the entertainment or was competition fierce? Give details.
Rex: There is not much to entertain you when your locked up, you can try to watch tv but there is no sound so it makes it hard to watch. The inmates make it hard to watch too because they are very loud and sometimes they fight and argue over the channel.

JM: Did you have a hard time staying in shape while in jail?
Rex: They dont let you work out in jail, you can walk in circles around the pod but thats about all.

JM: How often did you get to go outside? What did you do outside if you were allowed to? If you were not allowed to go outside what could you do for exercise?
Rex: You are taken outside once a week.as long as it wasnt raining. There isnt much to do outside but sit in the sun and breath fresh air.

JM: Did the jail offer church services? If so, what were they like and when were they held?
Rex: The jail offers no church services, you are allowed to have religious books and many inmates hold bible study on their own.
