Leisure Time

Interview with Kelly

JM: What types of facilities were available to help pass the time?
Kelly: Cards, books, gym equipment, newpapers. They had classes to attend, they also had a gym of to the corner of the unit through double doors where you could walk a track in a circle or work out on basic gym equipment. They had cards and books and magazines in one corner also.

JM: Did you have regular access to the entertainment or was competition fierce? Give details.
Kelly: regular access to the books and the newspaper. No everyone shared. Most people were interested in talking or showering or sleeping there time away. I saw a few playing cards anda few lifting weights and most just hung out and wasted time talking or razzin eachother. There is a social connection

JM: Did you have a hard time staying in shape while in jail?
Kelly: yes because there is no scheduled activity, alot of laying around and alot of bad food. They dont care about health there

JM: How often did you get to go outside? What did you do outside if you were allowed to? If you were not allowed to go outside what could you do for exercise?
Kelly: Never..dont go outside where i was. you cant even look out the window slits or get too close to them unless you want consequences or lockdown

JM: Did the jail offer church services? If so, what were they like and when were they held?
Kelly: No church services were offered where i was to my knowledge but they did offer bibles in the jail cells
