Pre-sentencing

Interview with Katie and Angel

JM: Tell us about the pre-sentencing process:
Katie: I waited for 9 1/2 hours to be booked. I was arrested on Dec 2nd 2005 and I didn't go to court until July 14th 2006. I waited until August 2006 to be sent to prison.
Angel: I was extradited from mississippi, me and ny fiance. We had to wait to a week for that. Then when we got to catoosa jail we waited never knowing when our court was going to be. They would not give us bonds so we were just stuck.

JM: Did you have police stop by your house for questioning? If not please give us details on how you came to be arrested.
Katie: Yes and they threatened me not to leave town.
Angel: The Catoosa County Detectives Came by my fathers house in TN looking for us. He came to the local jail there asking questions. They tracked my mother down and told her not to be in a vehicle with us because they were going to shoot us. They were coming to my dads searching everyday. They also ask all the neighbors if they seen me.

JM: What was court like? Please give as many details as you recall.
Katie: Long and drawn out I had Judge Jon Woods as my Judge and he was cocky and very hard to speak with.
Angel: Court was crowded and the public defenders was running around panicing. I couldn't speek with anybody. I didn't even have a second to thank about taking the plea. There is four of us charge partners. My fiance admitted that we didn't know what he did and they wouldn't even listen to him. So finally the judge listened, but the were all just ready to go home. Felony courts should be more than twice a year, so they are not so overwhelmed.
