Inmates

Interview with Darrell

JM: Did you find it difficult to get along with other inmates? Please give examples to explain why you did or didn't.
Darrell: As mentioned, I was not in population, I was in ad-seg. I was never told why, but I assume it had something to do with my past criminal history. I tried several times to get into an open dorm but was denied.

JM: What types of things did you have to do to avoid problems or fights with other inmates?
Darrell: Nothing. The only time I saw another inmate was during chow, mail, store or somethong related. Even then there was a guard there who wouldn't let me speak to them or them to me. (The guard had to be there to unlock the cell door and food port. Otherwise they where always locked.)

JM: Were you able to choose an inmate as your cellmate if you knew one? How often would your cellmate(s) change?
Darrell: No, but I heard (through the jail grapevine) that you could request a certain person as long as he wasn't gay or involved some way in your crime. And it had to be approved by the sheriff.
