Telephones

Interview with Darrell

JM: Did you have regular access to telephones?
Darrell: Yes, but it was by request only, had to be preapproved, and was for legal matters only. And they recorded EVERYTHING.

JM: What types of charges applied for calling people? How much money would you guess the average inmate spends per week on phone calls?
Darrell: I don't know, but the few calls I made where either free or charged to the public defenders office.

JM: Did you need to buy phone cards to call out?
Darrell: No, not where I was, and they didn't sell phone cards in the store.

JM: Did the jail screen your calls?
Darrell: Yes, no, maybe. They where not "supposed" to monitor calls to your attorney, but comments of the gaurds made me think otherwise.
