Interview with Jack, Jerry, Sarah, Gary, Kristie, Tim and Judith

JM: What clothes could you have brought in to wear in the jail (underwear, socks, etc.)?
Jack: Green jump suit....With some fine flip flops.
Jerry: green jump suit
Sarah: just the green jumpsuit long shirt undreneath and white grandma underwear
Gary: green jumpsuits
Kristie: Unfortunately we were not allowed to bring in any clothes. Everything from bras to underwear was County issued.
Tim: none, I was never offered that kind of treatment and never expected any. I don't even know if it was available
Judith: The only thing you could wear that was yours were your shoes. everything else was issued.

JM: If you had a set uniform, what did it look like? Please be specific about each piece of clothing issued to you.
Jack: Green jump suit.
Jerry: yes, green jump suit that was either usually too big or too small.
Sarah: green jumpsuit that had GWINNETT INMATE on the back in white
Kristie: Old, white, stretched out sports bras and panties (three pairs a week); a gigantic navy blue t-shirt to be worn at all times (two a week); a faded green jumpsuit with metal buttons (one a week); mens tube socks (three a week) and plastic brown shower shoes
Tim: blue grey pants with some kind of stripe and a shirt and tee shirt. I remember a jean jacket that had no liner during the winter. I remember never being warm.
Judith: The one piece jumpsuit was ugly army green. They gave out oversized t shirts and the underwear was always too big. socks and bras never fit either.

JM: Were there any assigned clothes in high demand that an inmate should look for when getting clothing assigned?
Jack: No just trying to get some thing that fit.
Jerry: no
Sarah: no just some girls fought over the newer jumpsuits and undergarments.
Kristie: The sports bras and panties they give women are old and stretched out. In my real life I wear a C-D cup bra and size six panties.. in jail this translates to a size small in both. There were only maybe 3-4 pairs of small size in each pod. If there were a woman of normal or small size in the pod I would warn her to try to get to the head of line. Some inmates would beg the guards to put the smalls aside for them - and get them that way.
Tim: You did not get it assigned. if a white inmate was wearing a coat that was torn to near rags and no sock the cops thought that was just fine
Judith: Always get a jumpsuit a size larger than you expect. You can always roll the pant legs up!

JM: Was the clothing different between men and women?
Jack: Seen no women.
Jerry: no
Sarah: I think because men were more agressive and stuck together they got more free time whereas females are backstabbing and tell on one another constantly
Kristie: The only clothing difference between the men and women is that they give the women sports bras. The jumpsuits are exactly the same.
Tim: how on earth would I know that.
Judith: I think the men wore a different color.
