Interview with Karen

JM: How long was your sentencing for?
Karen: 60 days, with no work release even though I was currently employed at Hewlett Packard at that time.

JM: Did you spend time in a holding cell after your sentencing? If so, what was that like? If you didn't where did they they take you instead?
Karen: Yes I was in a holding cell for about 2 hours before being taken to the Ada county jail. I was in the holding cell with two other women. I was very emotional knowing that I was going to be locked up for 60 days and that my job at Hewlett Packard was over. I knew I couldn't very well call in sick for 60 days or tell them that I had to serve 60 days in the Ada county jail for a misdemeanor probation violation. Either way, my jobwas over. I knew that I wouldn't see my kids for 60 days either, as I didn't want them to come visit me and see me in jail clothes and behind glass windows. I never wanted them to have a memory of me like that.
