Meals

Interview with Sam, Ron, Scott, Michael and Bruce

JM: How many meals did you get per day?
Sam: 3 small meals so buy commissary.
Ron: 3 if you can call them meals.
Scott: 3 meals per day. Breakfast at about 5:30 AM, lunch at 11:00 AM and Dinner around 4:30 PM.
Michael: Three meals per day, breakfast, lunch, & dinner.
Bruce: three meals a day and the were very small

JM: How would you rate the food? Please give details of why.
Sam: Sucked.
Ron: Breakfast is decent but for the most part the food sucks. As Sam says its not nearly enough to stay healthy. Without commissary you will starve. I wouldnt feed a dog the crap they gave us.
Scott: The food was horrible. Breakfast oftentimes consisted of milk, grits, toast and maybe a piece of bacon. Lunch, was a ham, bologna sandwich and dinner usually consisted of rice and gravy mush. Most people bought noodles and chips through commissary and use those items to compile a meal. Most people combined the kitchen offered food with their noodles. Noodles was the sought after item.
Michael: The food was usually lasagna for dinner with a piece of bread, a chocolate piece of cake, or a cookie, some fruit or applesauce and a juice box. It was a small portion but edible. breakfast was just a carton of milk and a small container of cereal with a banana and maybe a piece of toast. Lunch was usually a bologna sandwich, bag of chips, piece of fruit like grapes, and a cookie or piece of cake and a juice box. I just remember all the portions being very small, but three times a day was sufficient to live on, but if i were there a long time i could get commissary items.
Bruce: it was vey poor and cold you would get beans with rubber in it and there was very dirty the trays and to be honest i would never feel full when i ate and the morning meal was not even woth getting up for but i did it anyways so i would feel ok

JM: Did you have any favorite/least favorite meals?
Sam: It was all the same JAIL FOOD.
Ron: Breakfast was ok. Usually grits or oatmeal, maybe cold cereal, occasionally pancakes. All the other meals were tied for worst.
Scott: I like the breaded chicken sandwiches and breakfast sometimes but you had to get up at 5 AM in the morning.
Michael: Dinner was probably more favorable as it seemed to be the largest meal of the day and i was just trying to eat everything in order to feel full enough while time passed to the next meal.
Bruce: none of the foods were my faviortite but when you are in dupage you make your self look forward to the hot dogs

JM: Were there any other snacks offered outside of meals? What was commissary like and how expensive was it?
Sam: No other snacks, just what you can purchase on commissary.
Ron: Not unless you had money on your books for commissary.
Scott: Commissary offered cookies, chips, soda pops and noodles. I the prices were reasonable. Also you could buy envelopes to write home. I enjoyed them because the honey buns gave me a well needed snack outside the junk the kitchen offered.
Michael: I didn't ask and was not offered a chance to buy commissary items. I saw other peoples cells who had commissary items and i know they were in for a longer period, but no, no snacks were offered outside of meals.
Bruce: it was very nice there much to choose from but the prices were very high the tee shits are very thin but it is still a good thing to look at they have tuna but it is way over priced and they have in sta rice but whats the point to get there is nothing to cook it with
