Visitor Policy

Interview with Sam, Ron, Scott, Michael and Bruce

JM: How often could you receive visitors?
Sam: 2 times a week depends which floor you are on decides the days.
Ron: When I was there you could only receive one visit a week unless you worked for the jail either in commissary or in the kitchen in which case you got 2. However there are 2 separate visiting opportunities per week.
Scott: Visiting was only offered on Sundays during my stay. I believe from 1 to 5 PM. Only 30 minuted each week. Attorneys could visit any day.
Michael: I don't know i was not there long enough to have anyone come and visit me.
Bruce: you can see you family threw some glasse and it is only for a 30 mins a week

JM: Was the check-in process lengthy for those who came to see you?
Sam: I don't know.
Ron: I've been on both sides of the process and it really aint too bad.
Scott: The regular patdowns and no other problems I remember from family members. The process is relatively easy with ID. It can be crowded on Sundays so its suggested visitors arrive early.
Michael: again, because i was only there for 7 days and only served 5 days, i did not have anybody come and see me while i was in Dupage County Jail.
Bruce: long lines and everyone craming into a elevatior and going in to see them i would take up to a hourto see your loved one

JM: What was the visiting environment like?
Sam: You talk through a glass on a phone.
Ron: Pretty rough. It's usually packed so there isnt much privacy. You talk on a phone through glass so it can be very stressful. Walking back from a visit is one of the most depressing feelings ever knowing that your family and friends are going home to continue their lives and you are going back to a cell.
Scott: No touch interaction just only conversation through the glass with a phone. Conversations are monitored by the guards. Usually your adjoined with about 7 or 8 other individuals during your short visit and you can communicate with up to 4 members during the visit. Not an enjoyable time to be jailed.
Michael: Non applicable, as i did not see a visitor. I did not even see where the visitors area was or if they even had a visitors area, they may have as i seen there were many areas off to the sides that looked like office areas, but, i never saw an area that said visitor area.
Bruce: dirty and very croweded and the phone you use to talk on are very poor and there is gang writing and all these things carve into the glasse and then you have other inmates staring at you family and it makes them feel scared and very akward when they are there
