Interview with Matthew

JM: How many different blocks were there?
Matthew: In Kane County Jail there were approximately 15 different blocks ranging from minimum to medium to maximum security depending on your crime.

JM: Did they have names? If so, what were they?
Matthew: The Cell Blocks were named by different letters from A to Z.

JM: Which types of inmates were housed in the different blocks?
Matthew: Each block was considered a certain security level from minimum to maximum as well as a mental health block and segregation blocks. Depending on the crime(s) you were charged with dictated what Cell block you would be put in to.

JM: What do you remember being the nicest and worst parts about the different blocks?
Matthew: The nicest cell block was the Mental Health cell block. We were allowed to either come out or stay in our cell throughout the day. There was enough seating for everybody to sit down at a table to eat. There was a guard stationed inside the cell block so there were no fights or trouble. The worst cell block I was in was the medium security cell block were I had to stay out in the dayroom all day long with nothing to do. There was a TV but it was always too loud to hear the sound and we had no control over what channel it was on.
