Interview with Krystal

JM: Tell us about the pre-sentencing process:
Krystal: I was arrested by the Peru IL police Dept and questioned for several hours then had to spend the night in a jail cell and was later transferred to La Salle County Jail in Ottawa IL for early morning court and saw a judge who then set my bond for me so I could bond out.

JM: Did you have police stop by your house for questioning? If not please give us details on how you came to be arrested.
Krystal: No I was arrested at Target In Peru IL with my son who was shop lifting.I was with him and even though I was not shoplifting was also arrested just because I was with him even though he had all the merchandise on him and I had nothing on me.

JM: What was court like? Please give as many details as you recall.
Krystal: I was given a public defender who doesn't try to win your case he just does plea bargains with the States Attorney whether your guilty or not. In order to get found not guilty when your not you would have to be able to afford a lawyer that would fight for your case.

JM: What were your original charges? What did you end up being convicted of?
Krystal: Felony Retail Theft and was convicted of it too.
