Leisure Time

Interview with Regina

JM: What types of facilities were available to help pass the time?
Regina: They had rec time, GED, you could be a porter (you do the laundry and the cooking), or going church. TV, a couple books and magazines.

JM: Did you have regular access to the entertainment or was competition fierce? Give details.
Regina: It wasn't too hard to access. Once a week family members could bring in magazines to the inmate of their choice.

JM: Did you have a hard time staying in shape while in jail?
Regina: Yes. I was eating a lot and stressing a lot but I was losing weight rapidly.

JM: How often did you get to go outside? What did you do outside if you were allowed to? If you were not allowed to go outside what could you do for exercise?
Regina: Never. My skin tone got a lot lighter while I was there from not seeing the sun.

JM: Did the jail offer church services? If so, what were they like and when were they held?
Regina: They were every Tues and Sunday. They were 1-2 hours, reading the bible and focusing on certain passages.
