Medications

Interview with Roderick, Liza and Kevin

JM: Did you always have access to necessary medications?
Roderick: The detention facility does not allow certain types of medications. Nothing listed as a narcotic. If you have a life threatening condition that requires a medication they don't allow then the only way for you to get it is by being put in the clinic where they can monitor it.
Liza: For the most part, but the meds I came to the jail with were not given to me
Kevin: no...to much red tape.

JM: How did you get your medications?
Roderick: A cart was taken from pod to pod three times a day and the inmates given there meds then. The guard will say "First or second call for meds, then meds in the pod. The inmates line up with glasses of water and initial the date to show they received their medication. They are then required to lift their tongues and pull out there cheeks to show they swallowed their meds.
Liza: at a med cart 4 different times a day

JM: What types of punishments were incurred for abuse of drugs? Did you ever witness this?
Roderick: The county can charge you with bringing contraband into a detention facility which is a SERIOUS felony or if you test positive for any drug not prescribed they will give you a 15 lockdown which deprives you of visitation, telephone privalages, and any commisary not of a hygiene nature. You are only allowed out sometime during the night to shower, clean out your cell and grab a couple books. You are also not allowed association with any fellow inmates in your pod.
Liza: lock down
