JM: Did you have regular access to telephones?
Melanie: ya as long as you had phone cards or family who
could accept 15 dollar phone calls
JM: What types of charges applied for calling people? How much money would you guess the average inmate spends per week on phone calls?
Melanie: crazy prices it came out being over 15 dollars
per call when I would call home. it depends on
whether they have someone sending them a good
amount of money or not someone poor maybe 15
dollars and people getting money around 50
dollars in phone cards
JM: Did you need to buy phone cards to call out?
Melanie: you didn't have to w hen I was in there, well you
did if you called a cell phone and there wasn't a
pre paid account set up
JM: Did the jail screen your calls?
Melanie: they said they did who knows but I am sure there
are a few they did to try and use something
against them in court
