Interview with Lowell and Ray

JM: Did you have regular access to telephones?
Lowell: Yes we did have access.
Ray: Yes at certians times of the day we could use the phones.

JM: What types of charges applied for calling people? How much money would you guess the average inmate spends per week on phone calls?
Lowell: I think to call collect it was roughly around $3- $5 per call. A person could probably easily spend $100 a week depepending onhow often you call.
Ray: I think the average call was $3-$5. THe person you called collect had to pay for the calls.

JM: Did you need to buy phone cards to call out?
Lowell: No my wife would put money on her phone by using a company called Global tel
Ray: they had to set up an accoutn with global tellink to prepay for the calls you made and it was in different increments like $25, 50, etc.

JM: Did the jail screen your calls?
Lowell: Not that I know of.
Ray: THey lisstened to our calls and recorded them. people got in trouble by stuff they said on their phone calls.
