Leisure Time

Interview with Brandon and Lydia

JM: What types of facilities were available to help pass the time?
Brandon: Usually I stayed to myself and would rarely leave my cell but there were many activities such as social groups church meeting movie nights basketball group card games library time to research your case to find out answers to questions that you may not feel were answered at the trial.
Lydia: There were a number of services offered to help pass the time most of which I did not participate in but I can give you a run down of some of the services that were offered of course there was church (bible study) arts and crafts and other programs to help get you sentence reduced for an early release

JM: Did you have regular access to the entertainment or was competition fierce? Give details.
Brandon: Typical board games and television. Standard for any jail I guess but usually I wasn't up for any of the entertainment I was focusing on avoiding anything negative that could come my way and sometimes when your involved in fun activities especially due to the circumstances of jail there's going to be sore losers and that can relate to bigger problems.
Lydia: Access was always given to the inmates who did not have a history of misconduct while being incarcerated and I couldn't say that there was much competition for entertainment. I mean really who fights each other to be entertain well at least I didn't while I was incarcerated. It was a minimum security jail

JM: Did you have a hard time staying in shape while in jail?
Brandon: No because there isn't really anything else to do but to exercise. Keep a calm mind and to control yourself with the authority figures and the inmates.
Lydia: Absolutely not there were recreational activities as well as recreational rooms for exercise but I do not require exercise because of my high metabolism and the ability to eat right

JM: How often did you get to go outside? What did you do outside if you were allowed to? If you were not allowed to go outside what could you do for exercise?
Brandon: I was allowed to go outside between two to three times a week and the reason that I would go outside was to remind myself of what it would be like again after I was release.
Lydia: We were allowed to go outside as often as everyday depending upon the weather and or the activities of inmates in the facility and if we were not allowed to go outside I would stay in and read

JM: Did the jail offer church services? If so, what were they like and when were they held?
Brandon: Yes these services were offered but I never attended. Due to the fact that I wanted to focus on speaking to god myself and alone.
Lydia: Yes church services were offered but I could not or did not attend due to the fact that my religious background was not available
