Meals

Interview with Tony

JM: How many meals did you get per day?
Tony: three meals each day, 5am, 12p and 5p

JM: How would you rate the food? Please give details of why.
Tony: poor to inedible. Absolutely unable to eat breakfast for my entire sentence as it was just horrible Besides the tiny portions some of the food was not good enough to feed to my dog and I did starve often. Sometimes the food was cold and most times it was only luke warm

JM: Did you have any favorite/least favorite meals?
Tony: The meatballs were good but all other meals were barely edible. no taste, no spices, not even salt or pepper. Some food like turkey wheel or ham wheel looked uncooked since they boil or blanch it. Most inmates threw this meal away. Even officers would comment "are they serving the same shit today"

JM: Were there any other snacks offered outside of meals? What was commissary like and how expensive was it?
Tony: Yes you could order it weekly if you won the lottery. the inmates all complained that the cost was at least double compared to the state system and it caused a lot of tension since inmates depended on the food yet often could not afford to purchase it
