Pre-sentencing

Interview with Clinton and Brooke

JM: Tell us about the pre-sentencing process:
Clinton: At the time I was a victim of heroin. I ended up robbing a cell phone store for money and I was caught down the road.
Brooke: I spent a night in a cell with 3 other women in a large cell until the morning where I was lined up to see a judge over a webcam which made it easier for the judge to be a little more heartless. I found that there were a lot of drunk drivers.

JM: Did you have police stop by your house for questioning? If not please give us details on how you came to be arrested.
Clinton: I was arrested right after I robbed a store. The police followed me in the car. I was alone.
Brooke: No police stopped by my home. I was stealing from a meijer when I was 17. Another time I was driving with no licence and a warrant for not showing to court. Another time I was thrown in jail for assault taken from the scene and then taken to the city hall.

JM: What was court like? Please give as many details as you recall.
Clinton: I remember going to district court at the pretrial. I basically waived that. I got bonded over to the circuit court so I had to wait through the holidays. I was in Ingham County from October to January. From there I had a plea agreement.
Brooke: Court was cramped. A lot of people, filthy people. The attorneys seemed stressed and anxious. The judges seemed to be irritated. The security guards were making a mother show inside her childs diaper. I remember people dressed like they were going to bed. No one taking it seriously. I remember one time I went to court my school enemy and her mother claimed I had a knife on me and had my car and my person searched. Even though they didn't come up with a knife they still charged my driver with a pot charge.

JM: What were your original charges? What did you end up being convicted of?
Clinton: Originally charged with armed robbery, convicted of unarmed robbery.
Brooke: Original charges were: Retail fraud: charged with: retail fraud Contempt of court: contempt of court Assault with a deadly weapon: MIS assault
