Meals

Interview with Lily and Dawn

JM: How many meals did you get per day?
Lily: 3 meals a day plus canteen
Dawn: We had 3 hot meals a day. Well breakfast wasn't hot. we had peanut butter, cereal, milk, sometimes fruit.

JM: How would you rate the food? Please give details of why.
Lily: 7
Dawn: I would rate the food on a scale of 1-10 jail food probably an 8. i have been to other jails and Ottawa County by far has better food. We ate a lot of different kinds of beans a night which I didn't mind. Corn bread, tacos, pizza, hot dogs and sour kraut.

JM: Did you have any favorite/least favorite meals?
Lily: no
Dawn: Everyone's favorite meal was tacos. I enjoyed taco night and hot dogs and sour kraut. I didn't have a least favorite meal but I did have a least favorite food while i was in there. Greens.

JM: Were there any other snacks offered outside of meals? What was commissary like and how expensive was it?
Lily: yes
Dawn: yes there were other snacks among other items you can purchase on the commissary. the food ranged from peanuts to chips and chocolate candy bars. I never ordered from the commissary but from what i saw the prices were reasonable. Some of the items on the commissary were cheaper than buying them at the store.
