Leisure Time

Interview with Austin

JM: What types of facilities were available to help pass the time?
Austin: They had cards, dominoes and stuff like that. There were 2 TVs in the pod.

JM: Did you have regular access to the entertainment or was competition fierce? Give details.
Austin: You could buy a deck of cards if you wanted to so everybody had that. Picking what to watch was majorirty rule but the CO had to change the channel.

JM: Did you have a hard time staying in shape while in jail?
Austin: Yes because they didn't give you enough to eat to get a decent work out. Sometimes I would buy noodles and have them and that would help with the work out. They had a gym space but no weights just a place to do push ups and sit ups.

JM: How often did you get to go outside? What did you do outside if you were allowed to? If you were not allowed to go outside what could you do for exercise?
Austin: Never.

JM: Did the jail offer church services? If so, what were they like and when were they held?
Austin: They had services for all the denomitations and I went to quite a few of them. Some because that was my religion but others just to pas the time
