Meals

Interview with Rachel, Paula and Lindsey

JM: How many meals did you get per day?
Rachel: THREE.
Paula: 3 meals two of which were required to be "hot."
Lindsey: I got 3 meals a day of very very low quality nasty food.

JM: How would you rate the food? Please give details of why.
Rachel: GOOD: CORNBREAD, PACKAGED DRINKS & ICEE'S, VEGETABLES, BALONEY SANDWICHES & RAMEN NOODLES. HARD BOILED EGGS, COLD CEREAL. ICKY: MIXED DISHES, MEATLOAF, STUFF WHERE YOU WOULD WONDER "WHAT IS REALLY IN THIS?". SERIOUSLY, I FOUND A BANDAID IN MY PLATE ONCE.
Paula: The food was horrible. Supposedly two of the meals were hot but by the time they were served most of the time they had gone cold. The portion sizes were very small and as such I lost over 20lbs. It was the same menu on a four week rotation so after a while you could plan for what was coming without having to see it first
Lindsey: Every single dish we got in that place was disgusting because it was either really bland or burnt or just completely nasty tasting! There was also gossip among the inmates that they put things in our food to makes us more tolerable and for the men so that they couldnt ejaculate like at all. I dont know if it was just gossip or if it was true.

JM: Did you have any favorite/least favorite meals?
Rachel: SEE ABOVE. BUT LET ME ADD THIS: I WOULD'VE RATHER HAD AN EXTRA SERVING OF CORNBREAD THAN THE SOAD AND CHIPS THEY OFFERED ON MOVIE NIGHT. THE SODA WAS CRUMMY, BUT EVERYONE STILL WANTED YOURS. (YOU ALSO HAD TO KNOW IN ADVANCE TO TRY TO SAVE A CUP FROM EARLIER IN THE DAY, IF YOU COULD) JUST SAYING, IT WAS NOT ALL THAT "TREAT". A SNICKERS WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER!
Paula: All of the meals were my least favorite. I am diabetic and I actually looked forward to the snack bag of a sandwhich and peanut butter with a fruit, usually an orange, I received each night.
Lindsey: I did not have any favorite meal at all! All of the food there was absolutely horrible, bland, and nasty.

JM: Were there any other snacks offered outside of meals? What was commissary like and how expensive was it?
Rachel: YOU COULD PURCHASE SOME THINGS FROM THE COMMISSARY. . . IF. . .YOU HAD MONEY ONE YOUR ACCOUNT. THEY DID NOT, HOWEVER, TELL YOU IN ADVANCE TO BE PREPARED TO DO SO. YOU JUST HAD TO FIND OUT WHEN IT WAS DELIVERED WEEKLY, THAT YOU HAD MISSED OUT.
Paula: You could order commissary twice a week. It had a very detailed selection. HBA items, paper/pens/prestamped envelopes. Snack food and ICE COLD Ckes!!! You could spend as much as you wanted to up to your available balance
Lindsey: No there were no other snacks. Any snack you got you had to get off of commissary. The pricing on the commissary there was actually not to bad. I think they were trying to compensate for their horrible food, but yes everything on he commissar list was pretty inexpensive and other women that had been to other jails said the same thing.
