Interview with Joe and Matt

JM: Did you find it difficult to get along with other inmates? Please give examples to explain why you did or didn't.
Joe: yes because one the whole black and white tensions are always make it hard to get along The t.v. was another reason people fight over that all the time cards were another reason
Matt: I did because I am white and most were black and seemed like all were related calling each other niggers all the time even trying to call me nigger lol.

JM: What types of things did you have to do to avoid problems or fights with other inmates?
Joe: money was a huge issue to fight those that didn't have any wanted to take you canteen items and if you didn't give them up the wanted to fight you don't gamble that always turn into a fight because some didn't have the money or just refused to pay it
Matt: I had to bite my lip and just play along be cause i was out numbered pretend I had something in common with them, or just find some one one or two and find something in common with them and only socialize with them and nobody else to be safe

JM: Were you able to choose an inmate as your cellmate if you knew one? How often would your cellmate(s) change?
Joe: no they gave you who ever they chose to and that was it either deal with it or get locked up for fighting cellmates could change daily it all depended
Matt: no I would only be able to signup for what shift I wanted to work and the would put me in that section to work with all the other inmates
