Interview with Fred, Alfred and Darryl

JM: Did you have regular access to telephones?
Fred: Yes, they had 8 phones there that were turned on for most of the day.
Alfred: There was a systen when we could, and if we had money on them.
Darryl: yes but very expensive to use

JM: What types of charges applied for calling people? How much money would you guess the average inmate spends per week on phone calls?
Fred: I think it was like $1.77 just to make a call out. I don't know what kind of charges there were on the other end.
Alfred: It was expensive. Some said it was at least 15 dollars a wee, you could only use the money from prison fund.
Darryl: It was about five dollars per phone call people would spend whatever they could afford

JM: Did you need to buy phone cards to call out?
Fred: No they didn't have any of that.
Alfred: You needed your own special call number.
Darryl: no, you had to have money in your account

JM: Did the jail screen your calls?
Fred: Yes they did.
Alfred: I didn't see any screen while I was there.
Darryl: I think they just recorded ever call
