Interview with Ivan and Bobby

JM: Did you have regular access to telephones?
Ivan: We had to wait in line while other inmates finished in the big yard to make collect phone calls.
Bobby: Yes. You could use the phone all you want as long as you has money in your commissary account

JM: What types of charges applied for calling people? How much money would you guess the average inmate spends per week on phone calls?
Ivan: The phone calls were collect phones and I'm guessing that the average inmate spent about a half an hour a week on the telephone.
Bobby: 12 cents a minute on the phone you can call who ever I spending at least 30 dollars a week on the phone alone

JM: Did you need to buy phone cards to call out?
Ivan: We didn't have any phone cards in the prisons I was in.
Bobby: Nope money came Right out of your commissary account

JM: Did the jail screen your calls?
Ivan: I can't remember if the jail screened our calls.
Bobby: They say they do but I doubt it. Guys call girls That they have restraining orders on all the fime
