Interview with Charles and Nick

JM: How long was your sentencing for?
Charles: Charges were dropped so it was only the 6 months of waiting in Ontario.
Nick: 60 days no good time, 5 years probation and submit to a DNA test.

JM: Did you spend time in a holding cell after your sentencing? If so, what was that like? If you didn't where did they they take you instead?
Charles: No, I was in Ontario the entire time.
Nick: Yes, the 1st 72 hours is spent in lock down and depending on the officer's you may be allowed a shower. All meals are eaten inside your cell, and you are allowed no visitors. I already knew what was going to happen so I mailed myself books in for reading material.

Meals
Ontario County provides inmates with three meals per day. On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the best, the food rates about a 4. One of the least favorite meals is the ham that is still wet with water when served. Inmates who have money on their books can order additional snacks from the commissary to supplement the food the jail provides. Family members and friends can deposit money into the accounts of inmates for this purpose.

Early Release
To deal with issues of overcrowding, many jails are set up to allow for the early release of inmates who are well behaved during their incarceration. Ontario County offers inmates ten days off per month to those who follow the rules and avoid fights with other inmates. Inmates must be serving a sentence to be eligible for this time off.

Visits
Inmates can receive visitors once a week. Visits are held on the weekends, and the day visitation is held is dependent on the last name of the inmate. Those with last names beginning A through M have visits on Saturday and N through Z have theirs on Sunday.

Visitors must schedule and appointment prior to visiting. Once they arrive at the jail, the check in process takes about 15 minutes. Visits are held in a room with a glass wall dividing the inmate and the visitor.
