JM: Did you get off early based on good behavior?
Will: No. A 5 flat in NY is an 85% term, which means
that
they automatically give you 15% of your sentence
off
as "good time." However, they threaten to take
this
time in order to make you take programs in state
prison, and if you get into a lot of
trouble/fights
then you can potentially lose that time.
JM: What is the most time off you can receive for good behavior?
Will: I could only receive the 15% at the tail end of my
sentence.
JM: What types of actions do you need to avoid in order to get time off? Did you ever witness somebody losing time off for good behavior?
Will: You need to avoid being in gangs, getting into
fights, and messing with drugs. I haven't really
seen many people lose good behavior time in county,
but I have seen it in prison.
