Interview with Will

JM: How many different blocks were there?
Will: There were many, it was set up in individual "pods."

JM: Did they have names? If so, what were they?
Will: If I remember correctly, it would be a letter, then a number. Like D1, D2, D3.

JM: Which types of inmates were housed in the different blocks?
Will: The intake has new inmates who have not been classified, as well as snitches and people who come to county jail on the weekend to do time for more petty probational offenses. They have a block for women, one for immigration that was a new idea that I am unsure if they implemented, and most of it was general population with medium and lower classifications for most of the prison. They had a separate unit for the high threat classifications. Those were individuals in red jumpsuits. I was a Blue, which was medium. And we had a lot of yellow, which were the lower classifications.

JM: What do you remember being the nicest and worst parts about the different blocks?
Will: I was only on one block the entire time. I recall hearing stories of the high risk block and stabbings and such. That was the reason for why they took away our pens... apparently someone was stabbed a bunch of times in the face, so they made us use the flimsy "security pens" afterward. The worst part of the block I was on had to be the blacks. Not to be racist, but there were a lot of gangs and ignorant ghetto folk in there.
