Pre-sentencing

Interview with Eduardo

JM: Tell us about the pre-sentencing process:
Eduardo: processed at police station without incident ; transported to Hillsborough facility ; police attempted to interview ; police confiscated evidence ; magistrate was contacted (due to weekend) and bond was set ; I was confused to the process as it was my first time arrested and had several questions .

JM: Did you have police stop by your house for questioning? If not please give us details on how you came to be arrested.
Eduardo: I was stopped due to expired car registration tags. Officer claimed he smelled pot in the vehicle and proceeded to search the car. Officer discovered unregistered weapon and I was immediately arrested and handcuffed while the officer continued to tear my car apart in his quest to find more evidence.

JM: What was court like? Please give as many details as you recall.
Eduardo: After having a friend bail me out after 2 days , I hired a defense lawyer. He put the case on hold for about 4 months during which time I lost my job at the local hospital after 22 years. It was a confusing process to someone not familiar with the system

JM: What were your original charges? What did you end up being convicted of?
Eduardo: possession of unregistered weapon and possession of marijuana
